The picture of two slices of white bread, lathered in Vegemite and butter, was posted to the popular Facebook group Budget Friendly Meals Australia.
The Perth mum asked the group’s 90,000 members their opinion on the best way to eat the condiments on toast.
She started the post by calling it a “useless debate”, before asking “who likes to put butter on their toast when it’s still hot, or like me, prefers my toast to go cold and then put the butter on”.
The post attracted thousands of comments from people itching to share their verdict.

A lot of people were shocked by the woman’s “cold” approach, insisting the bread must be warm before applying the butter so that it melts.
“This should be illegal,” one person said about applying butter to cold toast.
“This photo is just messed up. Has to be hot toast with butter and Vegemite,” another added.
“Oh good god what kind of heathen waits for it to go cold? ”joked a third person.
“Hot otherwise I’ll pop it back in the toaster for a bit to warm up again,” a fourth person said.
One woman explained she had been married for 27 years only to recently find out her husband lets his toast go cold before adding spreads.
“Unacceptable,” she demanded.
But not all of the 2000 comments were against the woman’s preference. In fact, one Facebook group member said her husband puts his toast in the freezer for one minute after its cooked before adding butter.

“Definitely taste better cold,” another person added.
“Cold for vegemite and it has to be real butter. Hot for most other spreads,” said another.
“Let toast get cold, then spread on the butter and vegemite, yum!!!” a third person wrote.
Others said they’ll take the toast any way they can get it.
“With two toddlers, I’m not fussy. Just give me the toast!” said one.
If there was ever one way not to consume the popular spread, it would be spooning it. But unfortunately British man Ryan Coates learned that the hard way.

In a TikTok video he shared to his profile last month, the Brit left his Aussie followers horrified after eating the spread using a spoon — and let’s just say his facial expression said it all.
“Now time for some Vegemite,” he said in the clip. “Every Australian bangs on about this.”
He went from excited to disgust in less than 0.5 seconds.
“Pffff,” he said while repeatedly shaking his head.
Unfortunately, the video cuts off before viewers could get his final thoughts, but given the sour look on his face, it’s safe to say he wasn’t impressed.
